Frances graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Physiotherapy from Manchester University in 1997. She started her career at the Freeman Hospital and has worked in various NHS hospitals around the region, a stint in Australia and now works primarily in the private sector. Over the years, she has worked with various sports teams, both pitchside and within a clinical setting.

Frances started to specialise in the musculoskeletal field in 2002, has undertaken many clinical course and completed a MSC in Advanced Clinical practice (musculoskeletal) in 2007.

Frances has advanced skills in Manual Therapy and particularly enjoys treating neck problems. She treats all areas but if you’ve got a stiff neck and like hands on treatment, she’s the physio for you.

Jonny is a longstanding member of our team of Sports Massage Therapists. He gained his BSc(Hons) Sports Therapy in 2008. As you can imagine, he’s helped a lot of patients in that time! He is also qualified as a gym instructor and Pilates instructor so brings a wealth of experience in addition to his sports massage skills.

Jonny treats a variety of people, young, old, sporty and non sporty individuals. Kelly qualified with a BSc(Hons) degree in physiotherapy in 1995, graduating from the university of Northumbria. She started her career at North Tyneside Hospital before moving to Freeman Hospital as a Senior Physiotherapist where she rotated around all departments gaining varied physio knowledge.

Kelly then specialised in Trauma and Orthopaedics for 13 years, treating patients following joint replacement surgery, fractures, major trauma, osteoarthritic and rheumatological conditions. Her keen interest in musculoskeletal conditions led her to move into private practice in 2014 where she has continued to develop her skills.

Claire is experienced in helping a wide range of patients in recovering from injuries, working towards their fitness goals, or managing ongoing conditions. She is a massage therapist who also has expertise in the complimentary treatments of taping, dry cupping and Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilisation. Whether elite athletes, dedicated amateurs, desk jockeys or heating engineers, she knows they all have the same goal of being and feeling better.

From runners to rowers, cross-fitters to cyclists, Claire has worked with a range of clients. Claire is also a rowing and strength & conditioning coach.

Jack qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from Northumbria University in 2016 with a BSc(Hons) in physiotherapy. He started his career at Sunderland hospitals and rotated around all aspects of physiotherapy before specialising in musculoskeletal physiotherapy in 2018.

He has worked with Sunderland football academy and in a gym environment treating strength and competitive combat athletes. Jack has continued to develop his physiotherapy skills, taking further courses in Acupuncture, neck pain and shoulder rehabilitation.

Jack offers physiotherapy to all at the clinic and has a keen interest in various sporting activities including athletics, rugby, Crossfit and powerlifting. Amy is a skilled and dedicated physiotherapist who graduated from Northumbria University with a BSc(hons) in Physiotherapy. Amy’s particular interest lies in exercise rehabilitation, focusing on using targeted exercise routines to help her patients recover from injuries and improve their overall functional movement.

Amy also holds a Level 4 Diploma in Sports Massage Therapy, enabling her to incorporate advanced hands on soft tissue and manual therapy techniques alongside her rehabilitation strategies.

In addition to her work at Physio Plus, Amy plays a vital role in the military by providing physiotherapy services at Albemarle Barracks. Her experience working with military personnel has honed her ability to address complex, high-demand injuries, utilising her training in strength and conditioning to help soldiers recover from strenuous physical challenges and get back to full fitness.

Julie qualified with a BSc (Hons) degree in physiotherapy in 2004, graduating from University of Huddersfield. In 2007 she decided musculoskeletal physiotherapy was the area she wanted to specialise in and has worked with both paediatric and adult musculoskeletal patients ever since.

She used to be a competitive gymnast and her children are gymnasts, so has an interest in this area.

In addition to her clinics at Physio Plus, Julie works in the hands burns and plastics team at the Royal Victoria Hospital and has a specialist interest in hand therapy. She is a member of the British Association of Hand therapists. She has continued to develop her specialist physiotherapy skills through a wealth of post graduate training and brings these valuable skills and experience into her private work at Physio Plus.

Helen has been a physiotherapist for a long time! She qualified from Leeds Metropolitan University with a BSc (hons) degree in Physiotherapy in 1996. She started her physiotherapy career working in the NHS at the Freeman Hospital specialising in musculo-skeletal physiotherapy in 1999. Helen moved into the private sector full time in 2003, and founded Physio+ in 2007.

She has continued to develop her specialist physiotherapy skills through post graduate training most recently completing JEMS Movement ART level 2 which has taken her skills in movement analysis to the next level.

Helen has particular success in treating patients that may have had treatment elsewhere but symptoms still persist. She’s seen a lot of patients in almost 30 years as a physio and with that extensive experience may approach your problem slightly differently.

Helens particular areas of interest relate to rehabilitation of shoulder and knee injuries. She wants to help you be able to move with greater ease, confidence and control by treating the source of the problem, not the symptom.

Helen has also been heavily involved in treatment and management of sports injuries. She has worked with patients from grassroots level to high performance. She has helped many athletes return to the sport they love, be it running or triathlon to equestrian or martial arts.
